ISFUNDIYAR MODEL SCHOOL

Isfundiyar model school is a Punjab registered NGO (Non-profit Governmental) entity which has been working in rural area of Punjab since 1987.
The school was established in the memory of our beloved son Isfunidyar Ahmad Khan who died at the blossoming age of 17 on 5 May 1988. I and my husband Colonel Shahzad Ahmad Khan decided to help the poor, neglected and downtrodden children of our village in the educational field. With a humble air, I started a class of 10 children of tenets living in the close vicinity of our farm located in village Rossa, Mandi Faizabad, Tehsil Nankana Sahib, District Shiekhupura. Initially I coached the children myself. But soon, requests from many parents and students made me expand the school facilities. Now by the grace of God, has come to its present shape of 150 students in 5 classes. We have converted grain warehouses into classrooms for the students, and developed playgrounds and recreational areas for the students of the school. Education is totally free. All the students are provided free books, uniforms, uniforms, notebooks and stationery. I personally take doctors periodically to carry out medical examination. This far, financial support was provided through our farm income and contributions of my children. The pressure to expand the school is building up as the quantity of education is attracting the residents of the village. I have trained personally seven teachers whom I regularly brief on instructional technique. With the proposed expansion I see increased funding requirement as such I have registered the school as a NGO which will be a non-profit organization purely devoted for the education of poor children. Anyone is welcome to visit this humble beginning. Unless those who intend to provide contributions visit the school, it will agitate their minds about the genuine of its cause. Pictures of the school's beginning are given here.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The school was established to empower the children of downtrodden families of faizabad area with a sense of quality education. It does give a lot of surprise to the visitors of the school when the students, with all the confidence answer the queries come up with intelligent questions and carry a hope for the families who could not even dream of getting their children very basic education to read and write. We want to carry this hope on to the ultimate goal of establishing these students in the practical life they need both guidance and support to sustain the initiative given to them.

IMMEDIATE PLANS

We believe the training of teachers play a very pivotal role in the education sector to make education qualitative and interesting enough at the junior school (primary) level, one need to coach the teachers to deliver in an exemplary manner.
The chairperson herself have been training teachers for the school, but other private school in the area attract those teachers by offering them handsome salaries and every year we face them this dilemma only need to increase the salaries of the teachers, so that they cannot be recruited away from our free school. Secondly we need to induct more teachers every year and the educated girls willing to teach from the nearby vicinity are hardly available so we have planned to transport teachers from Lahore and other surrounding areas to the school site.
We have a doctor visiting the school periodically to give medical assistance to the students and poor people of the area. We have planned this to be a permanent feature. As the awareness about the health is almost negligible in this area. People use contaminated water, the food despite being very pure in the area get unhygienic because of their carelessness, and at times they do not visit the doctor apprehending the un-affordability of medicines. So we have planned a permanent dispensary in the compound, where people may visit the doctor every day and can get the basic medicines free for them right now. For the last 5 years Mr.’s Durdana and her family have been taking care of all education expenditure of the school. Now to make this wonderful effort of Mr.’s Durdana Shahzad sustainable and to meet the requirements of students getting admission in the school every year, and the continuation to the next classes of those students who are already there we need to arrange substantial funds to keep this project going. So realizing this as the high time to shed the burden of Mr.’s Durdana Shahzad and her family we need to look for donors as this school will be run under the umbrella of a NGO from now onwards.

LONG TERM PLANS

With the promotion of students to the higher classes every year we need to have a new class room. This basic need is supplemented with the fact that the number of students willing to join the school is increasing very rapidly and there is an urgent need to have more class rooms to start more sections for the beginners.
Understanding all these problems we need to buy a land sufficient enough to build the complete education complex that can cater to the needs of our future plans. In the year 2007, the first batch of our students will finish the high school that will be the time when the technical college in our proposed educational plan will get operational. According to our research, every student after the high school does not have the ability to continue the college education or to pursue professional education. Those who will possess such abilities will be supported through our scholarship plan. But those who show average results at the high school level will be diverted after evaluating their aptitudes, to the technical education, so that they may possess some technical art to make themselves a hardworking productive member of the society. We want you to come up with your contributions towards the uplift of all those who deserve and look up to you to experience a hint of what God have showered upon you.
